Tucson-based Applied Energetics, Inc. has been awarded a $10.4 million contract from the U.S. Marine Corps.
The company did not reveal the nature of the systems it will supply, citing a request from the Marines to keep details secret.
Applied Energetics, which makes directed-energy systems for military and security uses, has delivered systems designed to defeat improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, under a June 2008 contract with the Marines.
The company said funds under the yearlong contract will "support field operational support for deployed systems, training of U.S. Marines, procurement of additional systems, development of improvements to allow installation of the system on additional Marine Corps and U.S. Army vehicles …" and more.
The company said the contract was issued by the U.S. Army's Research, Development and Engineering Command and funded by the Joint IED Defeat Organization. |
