Tucson’s Global Solar Energy has become the first manufacturer to cross over the 13 percent threshold in energy production efficiency using thin film on a flexible substrate.
The company reached 13.2 percent efficiency but what makes it more noteworthy is that the breakthrough was made using Global Solar’s standard production and manufacturing processes, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Global Solar, 8500 S. Rita Road, has been making and selling thin-film solar products for more than six years. Its cells are being made into portable solar chargers.
