A Network of Extraordinary High-Tech Talent

With a population of more than 1.0 million people that is growing at a rate twice the national average, nearly a quarter of working-age residents in Southern Arizona have at least a bachelor-level degree and almost 10 percent holds a graduate or professional degree.

Southern Arizona is a leader in job development and employment in both the Southwest and the nation. A wide range of government-assisted training programs are available to meet the needs for skilled employees. They include:

Cochise Community College

Cochise Community College programs include the Center for Professional Development, Small Business Development Center, Career Services Center, Conferences and Elderhostel Program, Prison Education Programs, Adult Education, Binational Education Programs and Fort Huachuca Military Education Programs. It is committed to serving Southern Arizona citizens by offering classes in Willcox, Benson, Bisbee, Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista, Douglas and outlying areas.

Pima Community College

Pima Community College, the fifth-largest multi-campus community college in the nation, specializes in providing rapid response, flexible delivery and quality training and business solutions to meet the needs of local, state and national business partners. In addition to credit classes, workforce and business resources include: Aviation Technology Center, Business and Industry Training, the Information Technology Institute, the Small Business Development Center, Pima College Adult Education, the Center for Training and Development and Machine Technology, Engineering and Optics programs.

The college provides assistance for all stages of business development from start-up to expansion to reorganization. Training is designed and delivered to meet the specific needs of the customer through traditional or customized courses, credit, noncredit or continuous education units, instructor-led, online or distance education classes. Training facilities are available at the five campuses, Community Campus and other College locations or on-site at the employer.  

Pima County One-Stop Centers

One-Stop Centers connect businesses with job seekers. The Centers provide universal access to career and labor market information and services for job seekers. Services available to help Southern Arizona companies include job development for job seekers, customized training for both job seekers and employers, on-the-job training dollars for eligible companies, incumbent worker training, (such as H1B monies), and incentives and tax credits for employers. Additionally, an interactive web site (PimaWorks.com) is available where employers can post open positions and job seekers post resumes.

Pima County Workforce Investment Board (PCWIB)

Results-oriented, employer-focused and a commitment to effective workforce solutions are the hallmarks of the PCWIB. A dynamic partnership of private and public resources, PCWIB assures the availability of a trained labor force by working directly with the businesses in Pima County.

Southern Arizona Institute for Advanced Technology (SAIAT)

This industry-based technical institute offers certifications and credit classes for occupations in high demand. It provides curriculum in a fast track format suitable for both development of the local workforce and for export to a national and global market. A state-of-the-art delivery system provides one-stop functionality via the Internet and connects a larger pool of job seekers, employers, providers and students. One of the most important facets of SAIAT is its ability to respond immediately to industry training needs.

The University of Arizona is a student-centered university with over 34,000 students. Its more than 150 academic units are organized into 12 schools and 18 colleges, offering more than 300 degree programs.
