Business, education and government in Southern Arizona are working hard to create a more favorable technology business development environment. Examples and/or results of efforts underway may be found below:

-Arizona Daily Star Top 200 Employers:

The Arizona Daily Star's April 2010 Top Employer's report indicated that Raytheon Missile Systmes (RMS) is the largest high-tech employer in southern Arizona with 12,140 employees. In addition to RMS, the largest high-tech employers in southern Arizona are: IBM; General Dynamics Information Technology and  Ventana Medical Systems.

-Arizona Job Training Program:

Southern Arizona high-tech cluster industry companies have been particularly active users of the Arizona Job Training Program (AJTP). It's a multimillion dollar customized training program which is funded by companies via the state unemployment tax. The program is administered statewide by the Arizona Department of Commerce and in Southern Arizona by the City of Tucson Office of Economic Development .

-Bizjournals Rank of Large Metro Areas:

Bizjournals,
 the nation's largest publisher of metropolitan business newspapers, released its ranking of large metros for young adult job seekers on April 7, 2007. It lists Tucson as the 14th best metro area for young adult job seekers of the 66 big markets. Phoenix ranked in 2nd place.

-Entrepreneur Magazine Rankings:

In October of 2004, Entrepreneur magazine sampled US cities that are rising fast on the high-tech horizon. It selected Tucson as a city in the West that is working hard to create an environment favorable to high-tech business development. -Expansion Management's Hottest US Cities for 2007

Yuma was ranked one of the 50 hottest US cities in 2007 by Expansion Management magazine.
 The cities were selected according to a survey taken of eighty site-location representatives. They were asked to identify the cities their clients found most attractive when considering a site relocation or expansion. Flagstaff and Phoenix - Mesa - Scottsdale, AZ were also listed in the top 50 ranking.

-Milken 2007 Metro Study:


The Milken Institute's 2007study of the 200 largest metropolitan areas indicated Tucson ranked 15th in the overall Best Performing Cities category.

-Small Business Survival Index

According to a November 2, 2007 study by the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council, Arizona is the 15th best state for its entrepreneurship policy climate. 

While Arizona small businesses benefit from a lack of individual or corporate alternative minimum tax and low government spending, they face higher consumption-based taxes and a higher minimum wage. To see the full study, click here.

-University of Arizona Science & Technology Park:

As one of the nation's foremost research and development facilities, the University of Arizona Science & Technology Park was named by the Association of University Research Parks as the Outstanding Research Park of 2001. It's a 1345 acre campus ecompassing 2 million square feet of leasable space in twleve primary buildings. Thirty high-tech companies at the Park, including IBM, NP Photonics and Raytheon, employ more than 6,000 workers. For more details, please visit the link below:
